FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE belongs to a class of medication called anti-infectives used to treat various fungal and bacterial infections. Also, FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE may be used to treat infections such as giardiasis and amoebiasis (stomach infections) and trichomoniasis (genital infection) caused by protozoa. Fungal infection is a disease in which a fungus attacks the tissue and cause infection. Fungal infections may affect the skin and spread into bones, tissues, organs or the whole body. The bacterial infection is a condition in which harmful bacteria grows in the body and cause infection. It can infect any part of the body and multiply very quickly.

FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE is a combination of two drugs, namely: Fluconazole (antifungal) and Tinidazole (antiprotozoal). The fungal cell membranes are essential for their survival as they prevent the entry of unwanted substances into the cells and stops the leakage of cell contents. Fluconazole belongs to the class of antifungals that works by damaging the fungal cell membranes and kills fungi. Tinidazole belongs to the class of antiprotozoals that works by damaging the DNA (genetic material) of bacteria and protozoa and inhibits the formation of new DNA. Thereby, kills micro-organisms and clears the infection.

FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE is a combination of two drugs, namely: Fluconazole and Tinidazole used to treat various fungal and bacterial infections. The fungal cell membranes are essential for their survival as they prevent the entry of unwanted substances into the cells and stops the leakage of cell contents. Fluconazole is an antifungal that damages the fungal cell membranes and kills fungi. Tinidazole is a broad-spectrum antibiotic that acts against both aerobic (grow in the presence of oxygen) and anaerobic (grow in the absence of oxygen) gram-negative and gram-positive bacteria. It damages the DNA (genetic material) of bacteria and protozoa and inhibits the formation of new DNA. Thereby, kills micro-organisms and clears the infection.

Directions for Use

Take FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE with or without food as advised by your doctor. The tablet form of FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE should be swallowed as a whole with a glass of water. Do not break, crush or chew it.

If you are allergic to FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE or any other medicines, please tell your doctor. Avoid taking FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE if you are pregnant or a nursing mother and consult a doctor. Tinidazole may affect fertility in both men and women. Therefore, please consult a doctor if you are planning for pregnancy before taking FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE. Drive only if you are alert as FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE may cause drowsiness, dizziness, numbness or weakness. Do not drink alcohol with FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE as it may cause adverse effects such as severe nausea, vomiting, sweating, fast heartbeats, tingling or warmth under the skin. You are recommended to complete the full course of FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE as prescribed by your doctor for effective results. If you have adrenal insufficiency (adrenal glands do not produce sufficient amounts of steroid hormones), abnormal levels of calcium, magnesium or potassium, a blood disorder, fits, kidney, liver or heart problems inform your doctor before taking FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE. Avoid taking FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE with erythromycin, pimozide, cisapride, quinidine, terfenadine and astemizole as it may cause adverse effects.

FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE may interact with a blood thinner (warfarin), antibiotics (rifampicin, erythromycin, rifabutin, nitrofurantoin), antidepressants (nortriptyline, amitriptyline), antifungals (voriconazole, amphotericin B), benzodiazepines (triazolam, midazolam), anticonvulsants (phenytoin, carbamazepine), pain relievers (ibuprofen, lornoxicam, meloxicam, diclofenac, celecoxib, flurbiprofen, naproxen), antiallergic drugs (astemizole, terfenadine), antipsychotic drug (pimozide), drug for stomach upset (cisapride), medicines used to lower high blood pressure (verapamil, felodipine, losartan, nifedipine, isradipine, amlodipine), antiarrhythmic agent (quinidine), anticancer drug (ibrutinib, olaparib), antiasthma drug (theophylline), anti-HIV drugs (saquinavir, zidovudine), antidiabetics (glibenclamide, glipizide, chlorpropamide, tolbutamide).

Safety Advice

ALCOHOL

Avoid alcohol consumption with FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE as it may cause adverse effects such as severe nausea, vomiting, sweating, fast heartbeats, tingling or warmth under the skin. Please consult a doctor before consuming alcohol while using FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE.

PREGNANCY

FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE is not recommended for pregnant women as it may cause harm to the unborn baby. Please consult a doctor if you are pregnant or planning for pregnancy.

BREAST FEEDING

FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE is contraindicated in breastfeeding mothers as FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE is excreted in human milk and may harm the baby. However, if you stop breastfeeding while on treatment with FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE, avoid breastfeeding for at least 3 days after stopping FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE. Please consult a doctor if you are breastfeeding.

DRIVING

FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE may cause drowsiness, dizziness, numbness or weakness. Therefore, avoid driving if you experience any of these symptoms after taking FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE.

 

LIVER

Take FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE with caution, especially if you have a history of Liver diseases/conditions. The dose may be adjusted by your doctor as required.

KIDNEY

Take FLUCONAZOLE+TINIDAZOLE with caution, especially if you have a history of Kidney diseases/conditions. The dose may be adjusted by your doctor as required.
